Washington, D.C. – Café Mocha Radio hosts Loni Love, also of The Real, and female rap legend YoYo kicked off Café Mocha Radio’s 9th Annual Salute Her Awards, at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater in D.C.. Guided by this year’s theme “Step Into Your Power,” the first stop of the five-city Salute Her Awards Tour presented by Toyota, Sisters from AARP, LusterPINK and American Airlines.
Salute Her D.C. honorees included: The Washington Informer publisher Denise Rolark Barnes, FOX 5 Morning personality and WHUR afternoon host Allison Seymour, third-generation sister owners Stacie Lee Banks and Kristie Lee of their family’s Lee’s Flower & Card Shop, Madelynn’s Bake Sale CEO Madelynn Martin, tween founder/CEO of Madelynn’s Bake Sale, and her mother Tosha Terry, community activist and MSNBC contributor Karine Jean-Pierre, retired Marines decorated Gunnery Sergeant Tee Marie Hanible, former Congressional Black Caucus Executive Director Dr. Barbara Williams-Skinner and Washington Post first black woman reporter Dorothy Butler Gilliam.
Café Mocha launched its annual Salute Her Awards events in 2011, with a mission to recognize dynamic women who have made contributions in their communities and breaking down barriers.
